4-H Achievement Days begins with shows featuring small and large animals

Jones County 4-H Achievement Days kicked off on Friday, August 3, with a lively small animal show at the Jones County Sportsman’s Club. The event showcased a variety of small critters, including chickens, snakes, salamanders, kittens, dogs, and more. It was a fantastic opportunity for 4-H kids to exhibit their beloved pets and demonstrate their knowledge and care for these animals.

The excitement continued on Saturday, August 4, as 4-H kids took to the arena to showcase the livestock they have been diligently raising and working with. Sheep, goats, and cattle were paraded around the arena, displaying the hard work and dedication that these young individuals have put into their projects. The livestock show was a highlight of the event, drawing in a crowd of spectators who were eager to see the impressive animals on display.

On Monday, August 5, the focus shifted to the Harold Thune Auditorium, where exhibits of various projects were proudly displayed. From arts and crafts to science experiments, the creativity and talent of the 4-H kids were on full display. Additionally, a Lawn Mower & Wagon Pull took place, adding a fun and competitive element to the day’s activities.

Tuesday, August 6, brought a change of scenery as activities moved to the North Dam. Participants engaged in a range of outdoor activities, including Dutch Oven Cooking, kayaking, and geocaching. It was a day filled with adventure and exploration, allowing the 4-H kids to bond with nature and each other in a unique and exciting way.

The grand finale of the 4-day event was the Lion’s/Chamber Supper, where participants and attendees gathered to enjoy a delicious meal and celebrate the accomplishments of the 4-H kids. The evening also included the presentation of 4-H awards and a lively pie auction, adding an element of friendly competition and fundraising to the festivities.

As the event came to a close, participants and attendees were left with lasting memories of a fun-filled and rewarding experience. The Jones County 4-H Achievement Days provided a platform for young individuals to showcase their talents, skills, and passion for agriculture and animal husbandry.
