Animal shelters and evacuation options for those affected by the Park Fire

Evacuation orders have been issued in Tehama, Butte, and Shasta Counties as a wildfire continues to rapidly move north. The fire, fueled by steep terrain and strong winds, has prompted authorities to take swift action to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the affected areas. CALFIRE is closely monitoring the situation and providing updates to the public as the fire progresses.

One of the areas impacted by the wildfire is Lassen Volcanic National Park, which has been closed and placed under an evacuation order. Highway 89 through the park is currently open only to through traffic for the purpose of evacuation. The closure of the park underscores the severity of the situation and the need for residents and visitors to heed evacuation orders and stay safe.

For those in need of shelter, several locations have been designated as evacuation centers. Bella Vista Elementary School in Bella Vista, Butte County Fairgrounds in Gridley, Red Cross in Los Molinos, and Neighborhood Church in Chico are all available for evacuees seeking refuge. Additionally, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Red Bluff serves as an Evacuation Resource Hub for those in need of assistance during this challenging time.

In times of crisis, it is important to consider the welfare of animals as well. Large animals can be sheltered at Camelot Equestrian Park in Oroville, Ridgeway Park in Red Bluff, Corning Rodeo Grounds in Corning, and 715 Auditorium Dr. in Redding. Small animals can find shelter at North Valley Animal Disaster Group in Oroville, Gilmore Ranch Rd. in Red Bluff, and Eastside Rd. in Anderson. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office is also providing escorts into evacuation zones for owners to evacuate or provide care for animals left behind.

Owners seeking to access the evacuation zones for animal care are required to schedule a time slot by calling 530-529-7940. The escorts will allow 15-20 minutes for owners to provide for the basic needs of their animals or to load them up for removal. It is important to note that this service is not for the recovery of items or property, but solely for the care and evacuation of animals.
