Dolce & Gabbana introduces $100 dog perfume inspired by owner’s furry friend

Passers-by in central Rome were recently captivated by the sight of their reflections on the window of a Dolce & Gabbana luxury fashion house boutique. What caught their eye was not the latest designer clothing or accessories, but rather a new and unexpected product – a perfume for dogs. The Italian fashion house had launched a new fragrance for our four-legged friends, named ‚Fefé‘ in honor of Domenico Dolce’s beloved pet.

The luxury perfume for dogs, priced at over $100, has sparked both curiosity and concern among animal welfare organizations. The alcohol-free fragrance mist, inspired by Fefé, blends fresh and delicate notes of Ylang Ylang, Musk, and Sandalwood. Packaged in a green lacquered glass bottle with a 24-carat gold-plated paw, the product exudes luxury and exclusivity.

According to Dolce & Gabbana, ‚Fefé‘ can be applied directly to a dog’s body, avoiding the nose area, or sprayed onto a pet owner’s hands and then brushed or rubbed into the dog’s fur. The company claims that the product has been certified as suitable for animal use by the Safe Pet Cosmetics program, ensuring its safety and efficacy for our furry companions.

Despite the brand’s assurances, some animal welfare organizations and experts have raised concerns about the potential impact of perfumes on a dog’s sense of smell. The RSPCA, a prominent animal welfare charity in Britain, cautioned against anthropomorphizing dogs and advised against using strong-scented products like perfumes or sprays. Dogs rely heavily on their sense of smell to navigate and understand their environment, and overpowering scents could disrupt this vital communication channel.

Professor Donald Maurice Broom, an expert in animal welfare, highlighted the potential negative effects of strong odors on dogs, likening it to being in a blindingly bright light. While some sweet-smelling oils like lavender can have a calming effect on dogs, others may be overwhelming and unpleasant. It is essential for pet owners to consider the impact of scented products on their furry friends and opt for gifts that are enriching and enjoyable, such as toys or treats.

In response to the concerns raised, Dolce & Gabbana has yet to comment on the issue. As the debate continues, it is crucial for pet owners to prioritize their dog’s well-being and consider the potential effects of introducing new products, even luxurious ones, into their daily routine. While the allure of a designer perfume for dogs may be tempting, it is essential to prioritize our furry friends‘ comfort and sensory experience above all else.
