Valhalla Golf Club now home to champion racehorses

Valhalla Golf Club, located in Louisville, Kentucky, has recently become home to two champion racehorses, thanks to a partnership with the Prospect-based Thoroughbred rehoming organization, Second Stride. The horses, former graded stakes winner Hawaakom and graded stakes placed General A Rod, now have a specially constructed barn and pasture area at the main entrance of the prestigious golf venue.

These two magnificent horses will reside at Valhalla through the 2024 golf season before returning to their Chorleywood Farm home in the Fall. The addition of these horses to the Valhalla property is part of a larger initiative to showcase Kentucky’s rich horse industry and culture. Destination Design owner Randy Hoffacker, who was responsible for planning Valhalla’s new design elements in 2022, had a specific vision in mind.

“My vision was for the property to epitomize Kentucky,” Hoffacker explained. “To represent what makes our state the special place it is geographically and culturally. Nothing epitomizes Kentucky more than the horse industry. Once I learned about Second Stride’s mission, it was clear Valhalla needed to be involved.”

Valhalla owner Jimmy Kirchdorfer fully supported the addition of the horses, seeing it as a unique member benefit. He believes that showcasing these beautiful Thoroughbreds at the club’s entrance gate gives members and guests an immediate taste of the Commonwealth.

“We wanted to give our members and guests an immediate taste of the Commonwealth, and nothing says Kentucky more than beautiful Thoroughbreds,” Kirchdorfer stated. “We realigned our entrance gate so that the first thing you see at the club is the Valhalla Horse Farm.”

The presence of General A Rod and Hawaakom at Valhalla has been well-received by members and guests alike. Kirchdorfer emphasized the positive impact these horses have had on the property and the community.

“We love having General A Rod and Hawaakom,” he expressed. “They add to the beauty of our property and bring a smile to the faces of our members and guests when they enter and exit the club. Our membership is proud to partner with Second Stride and hopes that having General A Rod and Hawaakom at Valhalla will bring additional exposure to Second Stride and the great work they do with Thoroughbred aftercare.”
