Interview with Ruth Nicodemus, Head Trainer and Owner of Serenity Show Stable

Serenity Show Stable, founded by Ruth Nicodemus, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Located at Marchant Farm in Redding, CT, Serenity Show Stable has grown and evolved over the past decade. Ruth shares that the journey of starting the stables was a result of her accumulated knowledge, experience, and confidence. With the support of mentors and a clear vision of how she wanted to teach and train, Serenity Show Stable was born. Starting with just 6 clients and horses, the stable quickly grew to accommodate 28 horses within three months.

Reflecting on the changes in the equestrian world over the past 10 years, Ruth highlights the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The temporary halt in showing activities allowed her to refocus on the fundamentals and basics of riding and teaching. This period reinforced the importance of simplicity and the value of teaching real lessons to riders. Ruth emphasizes the need to prioritize the well-being of both the riders and the horses, always putting their safety and development first.

One of the key lessons Ruth has learned over the years is the importance of saying no when necessary. As an advocate for the horses and the sport, she understands the responsibility of guiding her clients towards their goals while ensuring the welfare of the animals. Ruth also values the strong relationships she has built within the equestrian community, surrounded by like-minded and supportive individuals who share her passion for horses.

Serenity Show Stable stands out not only for its state-of-the-art facilities at Marchant Farm but also for the close-knit team that supports its operations. With dedicated staff members like Kara Burgess, Rosemary Rebollo, and Efren Rebollo, Ruth has created a work family that prioritizes the success and well-being of the horses and clients. The collaborative efforts of the team, along with trusted partners like Watermark Equine and Joe Santos, contribute to the overall success of the stable.

Looking ahead, Ruth envisions continued growth and success for Serenity Show Stable in the next 10 years. She aims to focus on teaching her clients to the best of her ability, helping them achieve their goals, and finding them their perfect equine partners. Ruth’s ultimate goal is to be a part of making her clients‘ dreams come true, one step at a time. Balancing the business side of running a stable with her passion for horses and training is a constant juggling act for Ruth, but one that she embraces wholeheartedly.

As Serenity Show Stable enters its next decade, Ruth remains committed to providing top-notch training, care, and support to her clients and their horses. With a strong team by her side and a dedication to excellence, Ruth’s vision for the future is one of continued growth, success, and fulfillment in helping others achieve their equestrian dreams.
