‚Horses abandoned and left to rot among trash‘

In the vast desert landscape of southern Arizona lies a section of land known as the Dogpatch, a place where neglect and abandonment have become all too common. Recently, at least half a dozen horses were rescued from this area, sparking outrage among animal activists who are demanding action from the authorities. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office is being called upon to address the ongoing issue of animals being left to die in this desolate region just south of Tucson International Airport.

For years, the Dogpatch has been a dumping ground for trash and unwanted items, but it is the sight of neglected and starving animals that truly highlights the severity of the problem. Erick Munoz, a concerned citizen, recounted the heartbreaking discovery of a 2 1/2-year-old colt named Little Man, who was found abandoned and emaciated among the debris. This tragic incident is just one of many that have occurred in the area, where dead horses are left to rot, unnoticed and uncared for.

Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary, a local organization dedicated to saving horses in need, stepped in to rescue Little Man and provide him with the care he desperately needed. Unfortunately, the help came too late, and the young colt had to be euthanized due to his deteriorating condition. Founder Karen Pomroy expressed her sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention in cases of animal neglect and abuse.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos acknowledged the widespread issue of animal cruelty in the region, revealing that his agency receives an average of 100-150 calls per year related to such incidents. He urged the public to report any cases of neglect or abuse promptly, emphasizing the importance of taking action to prevent further suffering. Nanos emphasized that law enforcement is ready and willing to respond to these calls and address the problem at its source.

In light of these distressing events, it is essential for pet owners to be responsible and seek help if they are unable to care for their animals. Sanctuaries and rescues like Equine Voices are available to provide a safe haven for animals in need, offering them a chance at a better life away from neglect and harm. By working together and raising awareness about the plight of animals in the Dogpatch and similar areas, we can strive to create a safer and more compassionate environment for all living creatures.

As the community rallies together to demand justice for the horses of the Dogpatch, it is crucial for authorities to take swift and decisive action to address the root causes of animal neglect and abuse. By standing up for those who cannot speak for themselves, we can make a difference and ensure that no more innocent lives are lost to cruelty and indifference.
