Animal shelters address dog overpopulation crisis by waiving adoption fees

A coalition of animal adoption groups across Massachusetts, including the Worcester Animal Rescue League, have joined forces to host a statewide adoption event in collaboration with other animal welfare organizations. This initiative, funded by the Best Friends Animal Society and organized by MSPCA-Angell, aims to address the challenges faced by shelters in the region, particularly in terms of capacity and resources.

Kristin Mullins, Executive Director of the Worcester Animal Rescue League, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with MSPCA-Angell and other organizations, emphasizing the importance of unity in tackling common issues. „We’re stronger together. All the shelters here in New England are struggling with the same things, which is mostly that they’re at capacity,“ Mullins stated. The statewide adoption event, the first of its kind for the coalition, will feature a fee waiver for participating animal welfare groups from July 15 to July 21. This initiative aims to facilitate the adoption process and create more space in shelters for stray animals.
