Aztec Horse Therapy Offers Healing for Trauma – The Tri-City Record

Horse therapy has been gaining recognition for its healing benefits, especially for veterans and individuals with disabilities. This therapeutic approach was showcased at the Aztec Four Corners Equus Film and Arts Fest, where experts in the field demonstrated the power of equine-assisted activities.

Rebecca Mullins, the owner of Mullin’s Equestrian Services, and Ronda Ward from the Remedy Reins Therapeutic Horsemanship Program, discussed their work using miniature and full-size horses for therapy. They highlighted the effectiveness of horse therapy in treating conditions such as autism and other disabilities. These programs are not limited to specific groups and are open to all children and adults who can benefit from the healing connection with horses.

Alecz Adams, the president and director of horse operations for 10th Mountain Equine, showcased trauma healing techniques using the energy emitted by horses. She conducted a yoga on horseback workshop with Camielle Fiske, a senior at Aztec High School. This workshop demonstrated the therapeutic benefits of combining yoga with the calming presence of horses.

Bonnie Anderson, representing the National Mustang Association of Colorado, presented gentling techniques with her horse, Marvel the Mustang. Marvel, born in 2019 in Mesa Verde National Park, was the first horse to be bait trapped in 2021 as part of the program. Anderson emphasized the importance of positive reinforcement training techniques in building trust and communication with horses.

Rhonda Ward, a PATH International certified counselor, shared her experiences with horse therapy for individuals with various disabilities. She highlighted the significant improvements she has witnessed in clients through equine-assisted activities. Ward’s programs offer traditional riding, anti-bullying training, and classroom visitations, catering to a diverse range of needs.

Jennifer Mullins, owner of Mullin’s Equestrian Services, delved into the electromagnetic energy fields between horses and humans. She explained how horses are sensitive to human energy and emphasized the importance of understanding a horse’s perspective to establish a positive connection.

Alecz Adams further elaborated on the concept of electromagnetic fields, emphasizing the profound impact horses can have on human energy fields. She discussed how horses can help disrupt negative thought patterns and habits, leading to healing and transformation. Adams works with children, veterans, and first responders, using horses to alleviate physical, emotional, and mental trauma.

The Equus Film and Arts Fest provided a platform to showcase the therapeutic benefits of horse therapy, including horse yoga and mustang gentling. Through these demonstrations, attendees gained insight into the profound connection between humans and horses and the potential for healing and growth through equine-assisted activities. The event highlighted the transformative power of horses in promoting well-being and resilience in individuals facing various challenges.
