According to city officials, the blaze likely originated in a pet dog shop where the owner had left a fan on overnight to provide ventilation and cooling for the animals. A vendor in the market recounted being awakened by the cries of animals above her shop, only to be engulfed in thick smoke that made it difficult to breathe. Fortunately, no human casualties have been reported thus far.
Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited the market, expressing condolences for the loss of life and stating that an investigation into the cause of the fire was underway. The city administration is still assessing the extent of the damage and the cost involved, but they have assured affected shopkeepers that they can apply for compensation.
