Despite ‚overwhelming‘ response, Banksy chip shop will remain closed for the summer

The latest addition to Banksy’s animal series has been unveiled on Bonners Fish Bar in Northcote Road, Walthamstow, east London. The artwork features two birds, one stooping down to scoop up a fish on the takeaway’s sign, while the other is tossing a fish in the air. This playful and whimsical piece adds to the growing collection of Banksy’s street art that has been captivating audiences around the world.

The fish and chip shop announced in July that it would be closing from August 1 until September 5. However, the unexpected arrival of Banksy’s artwork has brought a surge of attention to the small establishment. In a recent Instagram post, the owners expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and excitement surrounding the new artwork. They clarified that they did not commission Banksy to create the piece but are grateful for the unexpected gift.

The local community has rallied around the fish and chip shop to ensure the protection of the artwork. Local Labour MP Stella Creasy, Waltham Forest council, and street artist Mark McClure from Wood Street Walls have all played a role in safeguarding the piece. The shop owners also extended their thanks to the security team for their diligent watch over the artwork.

Despite the temporary closure of the shop, the owners are looking forward to welcoming customers back on September 5. They have been delighted to see the outpouring of love and support from the community and are eager to resume serving their famous fish and chips. The presence of Banksy’s artwork has added an extra layer of excitement to the reopening of the shop.

Banksy’s animal series has been making waves across London, with new pieces popping up every day. From a goat to a rhino climbing on a car, each artwork brings a sense of wonder and intrigue to the streets. The artist’s unique style and thought-provoking themes have captivated audiences and sparked conversations about art and society.

As Banksy continues to surprise and delight with his street art, the residents of London eagerly await the next unveiling. The unexpected appearance of these pieces adds a sense of magic and excitement to the city streets, turning ordinary locations into art galleries for all to enjoy. The fifth piece in the animal series is just the latest example of Banksy’s ability to captivate and inspire with his art.
