Eventing Horses Shine in the Spotlight at Versailles

Nicholas Wettstein, representing Ecuador, made quite the impression at the Eventing First Horse Inspection at the Chateau de Versailles for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The event kicked off with a total of 81 horses, including alternates, being presented before the Ground Jury for inspection. Despite some gentle rain in the air, the horses were full of energy and excitement as they showcased themselves in front of the officials and media.

One horse that stood out during the inspection was Altier d’Aurois, a bright chestnut gelding ridden by Nicholas Wettstein. Altier d’Aurois’s enthusiasm nearly caused him to overshoot the runway as he proudly displayed himself to the onlookers. Wettstein could only smile at his horse’s exuberance, showcasing a strong bond between horse and rider.

The event also saw some last-minute changes to the team line-ups, with Team USA experiencing a late withdrawal from Will Coleman’s Diabolo. Elisabeth Halliday and Nutcracker were promoted from the alternate position to join Boyd Martin and Caroline Pamukcu in the US team. Sydney Elliott and Diamantaire were then moved to the alternate reserve position. These changes added an element of unpredictability to the competition, keeping spectators on their toes.

The draw for the teams was made, with Germany leading the way followed by Australia, Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, USA, and other nations. Defending individual Olympic champion Julia Krajewski of Germany was set to kick off the dressage tests with her horse Nickel 21. The dressage test, a 2024 Olympic Games 5* test (short), promised to be a thrilling display of skill and precision from the world’s best Eventing riders.

Great Britain, the defending team title holder, and Germany’s Julia Krajewski were among the top contenders vying for victory. Krajewski, who made history in Tokyo by becoming the first woman to win individual gold in Eventing, was aiming for a back-to-back double with her talented gelding Nickel 21. The stage was set for an intense competition as riders prepared to showcase their talents in the dressage arena.

Overall, the Eventing First Horse Inspection at the Chateau de Versailles set the stage for an exciting start to the equestrian events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With top riders and horses from around the world competing for glory, spectators can expect a display of athleticism, skill, and teamwork in the days to come.
