First Ape Species Arrives at Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park

The newest animals at Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park are a pair of white-handed gibbons named Gillian and Donnie. These adorable apes come from Southeast Asia and are classified as endangered due to threats like deforestation and urban expansion. White-handed gibbons are known for their morning calls to announce their territory, which you may hear throughout the park if you visit in the morning. According to National Geographic, white-handed gibbons are among the fastest of all primates, making them a fascinating addition to the park’s diverse collection of animals.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park is home to a wide variety of mammals, including antelope, giraffe, capybara, otter, lynx, sloths, and more. In addition to mammals, the park also boasts over 800 birds and more than 130 reptiles. Located on 80 acres at 8313 Pratt Lake Ave. SE, Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you’re looking for a special experience, mark your calendar for Baby Animal Days from July 18 through the 21.
