First Ape Species Arrives at Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park

Looking for something fun to do with the kiddos? Look no further than Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park in Alto, West Michigan! This exciting wild animal park is home to over 460 mammals representing 64 different species, and they have some new additions that are sure to delight visitors of all ages.

The newest animals at Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park are a pair of white-handed gibbons named Gillian and Donnie. These adorable apes come from Southeast Asia and are classified as endangered due to threats like deforestation and urban expansion. White-handed gibbons are known for their morning calls to announce their territory, which you may hear throughout the park if you visit in the morning. According to National Geographic, white-handed gibbons are among the fastest of all primates, making them a fascinating addition to the park’s diverse collection of animals.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park is home to a wide variety of mammals, including antelope, giraffe, capybara, otter, lynx, sloths, and more. In addition to mammals, the park also boasts over 800 birds and more than 130 reptiles. Many of the animals at Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park are rare and endangered species, making it a unique opportunity to see these creatures up close and learn about conservation efforts to protect them.

Located on 80 acres at 8313 Pratt Lake Ave. SE, Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you’re looking for a special experience, mark your calendar for Baby Animal Days from July 18 through the 21. During this event, you can get up close to the zoo’s newest additions, take photos with the baby animals, and even interact with them at a special animal encounter station.
