Happy Little Hooves sanctuary reaches maximum capacity

Happy Little Hooves sanctuary, located southwest of Estevan, has been providing care for small animals in need of love since its establishment in 2019. The sanctuary is currently home to 43 animals, the majority of them being miniature horses and ponies. This includes five mules, four donkeys, a goat, and 33 miniature horses and ponies. The sanctuary has been at capacity for about a year, but they are open to taking in another animal if it is a life or death situation.

Laura Stock, who operates the sanctuary with her sister Rhonda, mentioned that all the animals at Happy Little Hooves are healthy, happy, and doing well. Since it is a sanctuary, they do not provide adoption services, and the animals in their care have found their forever home. These animals have special needs, whether behavioral or medical, and require constant care and attention.

Many of the animals at Happy Little Hooves are older and have developed issues over time that their previous owners could not care for. Stock emphasized that the sanctuary is often the last chance for these animals, providing them with the life they deserve. Unfortunately, there is a definite need for the services that Happy Little Hooves provides, as many miniature horses do not receive proper care, leading to health issues.

Happy Little Hooves recently hosted a book sale near the Power Dodge Curling Centre in Estevan to raise funds for repairs at their facilities and preparations for winter. The money raised will also help cover the cost of feed, especially for animals with specific health conditions. Additionally, the sanctuary offers a sponsorship program for those looking to support their animals, allowing individuals to sponsor a little for a certain amount of money and receive a certificate, picture, and bio of the animal they choose.

In celebration of its five-year anniversary, Happy Little Hooves will be hosting an open house on September 21 at their facility. The event will include demonstrations, tours, and a dedication of their new shelter, made possible through a donation by the Rotary Club of Estevan. Stock expressed the need for a second area or for someone to step forward and provide similar services and care, as running a sanctuary is a significant amount of work.

Overall, Happy Little Hooves sanctuary plays a crucial role in providing care and support for small animals in need, ensuring they receive the love and attention they deserve. The dedication and commitment of the staff and volunteers at the sanctuary are truly commendable, and their efforts make a significant difference in the lives of these animals.
