I believed she was dead

A family outing to Mount Charleston near Las Vegas took a terrifying turn when a wild horse kicked a three-year-old girl in the head, resulting in a serious injury. The incident occurred while the family was at Lee Meadows for a photo shoot, with two wild horses approaching the picnic area where they were gathered. The peaceful scene quickly turned chaotic as one of the horses targeted young Olivia, causing her mother, Haley Wilkey, to fear the worst.

In a panic, Haley called out for her husband, who quickly came to their daughter’s aid. With no cell service available, he had to drive down the mountain to seek help, leaving Haley to tend to Olivia’s injuries. Fortunately, a stranger who happened to be nearby came to their aid, providing first aid supplies and assisting in applying pressure to the wound on Olivia’s head to control the bleeding.

The situation was dire as both Haley and the stranger worked tirelessly to keep Olivia stable until help arrived. The ordeal lasted nearly 45 minutes before an ambulance was able to transport the injured girl to the hospital. Thanks to the quick actions of those involved, Olivia’s life was saved, and she was able to receive the necessary medical attention to address her head injury.

Following scans at the hospital, it was determined that Olivia did not sustain any brain damage from the incident. By Tuesday evening, she was sitting up in bed and talking, showing signs of improvement. The family expressed their gratitude towards the stranger who stepped in to help, acknowledging that his assistance played a crucial role in Olivia’s recovery.

Looking back on the incident, Haley admitted that they were too close to the wild horses and would have avoided the meadow altogether had they known the potential risks. Despite the frightening experience, the family was grateful for the outcome and the support they received during a harrowing ordeal.

As they reflected on the incident, the Wilkey family emphasized the importance of being cautious around wildlife and maintaining a safe distance to prevent similar accidents in the future. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of wild animals and the need to exercise caution when encountering them in their natural habitat.

In the end, Olivia’s recovery serves as a testament to the power of quick thinking and community support in times of crisis. The family’s harrowing experience at Mount Charleston serves as a cautionary tale for others, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safety when exploring nature and encountering wildlife.
