The horses, Jake and Henry, are now safe and sound at BS Farm, a boarding facility in Newington, thanks to the efforts of Ranch Owner Sylvy Tompkins and the recently formed group, Red Squadron 912. This group has been actively involved in transporting and evacuating people and animals from floodwaters in the area, demonstrating a true sense of community and compassion.
The rescue mission in Bloomingdale took place after a 74-year-old woman sent out an SOS call before losing service due to rising floodwaters near her home. The water levels reached 4 to 6 feet, putting her horses, dogs, and herself at risk. The situation was dire, with even a gator lurking nearby as the rescue efforts unfolded.
David Huynh, a member of Red Squadron 912 and owner of Envy Nail Salon in Savannah, has been volunteering his time since the storm hit the area. Along with around 11 other locals, he has been instrumental in helping those in need across Southeast Georgia. The rescue of Jake and Henry required gaining the trust of the horses, who were standing in water up to their necks, before safely extracting them from the floodwaters.
Sylvy Tompkins, who received a call to assist in the rescue, runs BS Ranch in Newington and brought her trailer to transport the horses to safety. She ensured that Jake and Henry received the care they needed, including medicine and a safe place to rest until they could be properly evaluated by a vet.
Currently, Jake and Henry are being quarantined at BS Ranch until the vet visit on the 19th. After that, they will join the other animals at the facility in a large pasture where they can graze and roam freely. The generosity and kindness shown by Sylvy Tompkins and the members of Red Squadron 912 have provided a temporary home for the horses until their owner can make arrangements for a more permanent solution.
Both Sylvy and David emphasize that their actions were driven by a sense of compassion and the belief that helping others in need is a fundamental responsibility. They hope that their efforts will inspire others to lend a helping hand in times of crisis, knowing that the support of a community can make all the difference.
