Kayla Pressel, a young horsewoman from Maryland, has an undeniable love for her standardbreds. Despite low expectations for her 14-year-old gelding, Just Bettor, Pressel was pleasantly surprised when he won the 12th race of the evening. It was Pressel’s first training win, and the victory was a special moment for her. Just Bettor, a $2,700 purchase, has exceeded expectations and proven to be the perfect horse for Pressel to achieve this milestone.

Pressel’s stable has since expanded to include another horse, Spodogg, and she has her sights set on growing her stable while keeping it at a manageable size. Her long-term goal is to have a successful stable of her own, and she is dedicated to working towards that goal.

Pressel’s passion for horse racing began in Pennsylvania, where she worked as a groom for trainer and driver Brian Tomlinson. Tomlinson was in the sulky for Spodogg’s race at Ocean Downs, creating a full-circle moment for Pressel.
