Martha’s Vineyard News from The Vineyard Gazette

The Celebration of Pets event held at the Ag Society’s Fairgrounds was a heartwarming and joyous occasion that brought together pets and their owners from all over Martha’s Vineyard. Organized by Jeanna Shepard, the event was not only a fun day out for families and their furry friends but also a benefit for the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard.

One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Island Alpaca, who brought their herd for petting and pictures. Children and adults alike were delighted to interact with these gentle creatures, learning about alpacas and enjoying their soft fur. The opportunity to get up close and personal with such unique animals added an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Gordon Healey, a well-known animal lover and advocate, gave a heartfelt speech to the assembled pets and owners, emphasizing the importance of caring for and cherishing our animal companions. His words resonated with the audience, reminding everyone of the special bond between humans and animals.

The event also included a blessing ceremony conducted by Reverends Mark Winters and Bill Eddy. The reverends offered prayers for the well-being and happiness of all the animals present, invoking blessings for their health and safety. This touching gesture brought a sense of peace and unity to the event, highlighting the spiritual connection that many people feel with their pets.

In addition to the various activities and presentations, there was a coloring station where children could unleash their creativity and express their love for animals through art. The laughter and chatter of the young participants added a lively and playful atmosphere to the event, making it a truly family-friendly affair.

Lisa Dawley, a representative from the Animal Shelter, was also present at the event, providing information about the shelter’s mission and services. She spoke passionately about the importance of adoption and responsible pet ownership, encouraging attendees to consider giving a forever home to a shelter animal in need.

Overall, the Celebration of Pets was a wonderful gathering that celebrated the bond between humans and animals. It was a day filled with laughter, love, and compassion, reminding everyone of the joy that pets bring into our lives. Thanks to the efforts of Jeanna Shepard and all those involved, the event was a resounding success, raising awareness and support for the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard.
