Michigan Turkey Producers Cooperative, Inc. Receives Grant to Expand Cold Storage Capacity
In a move to support local food and agriculture businesses, the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved a Food and Agriculture Investment Program (FAIP) grant of $75,000 to Michigan Turkey Producers Cooperative, Inc. This grant will assist the company in reconfiguring its current cold storage capacity, allowing for expanded capacity to fulfill orders more efficiently. Michigan Turkey Producers Cooperative, Inc. is a grower-owned cooperative that has been operating since 1998. With 5.3 million adult male turkeys harvested annually from 53 Michigan family farms, the company has seen significant growth over the years. Their purchase of a vegetable processing and storage facility in 2006 allowed them to expand their production capacity and offer a variety of ready-to-eat turkey products to local, national, and international markets.
