Mumbai welcomes its first small animal hospital

Are you an animal lover? Do you have a pet? Do you worry about all your furry friends roaming the streets on a rainy morning? If your answer to all these questions is a resounding yes, we have some good news for you—Ratan Tata opened India’s first 24-hour Small Animal Hospital in Mumbai. Known for his love of animals, the 86-year-old industrialist has taken veterinary care to a whole new level.

This initiative by the Tata Trust will provide round-the-clock care for your pets and strays in need. The hospital in Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi area will be the first of its kind spanning over 9,800 square feet with a capacity of 200 beds. The team at this veterinary hospital will be spearheaded by Thomas Heathcote, a renowned British veterinarian.

Reportedly, its services will include an emergency room, triage, and consultation. But that’s not all. They will also have in-patient care and various departments like dermatology, cardiology, and radiology including tests like MRI, CT, and ultrasonography.

Pets are like family and all pet owners will agree that the infrastructure for pet medical care is bleak and this small animal hospital is aimed at closing the gap.

In the future, this small animal hospital will even offer surgical services. But that’s not the best part. All these services will be provided to stray animals pro bono or at very minimal costs. The hospital will also have an annexe dedicated to sterilising and treating strays which will be run by the Welfare of Stray Dogs, a city-based animal welfare NGO.

This hospital aims to enhance veterinary care in the city and we’re all here for it!

The opening of India’s first 24-hour Small Animal Hospital in Mumbai by Ratan Tata is a game-changer for pet owners and animal lovers alike. With a focus on providing round-the-clock care for pets and strays, this hospital is set to revolutionize veterinary services in the city.

The hospital, located in Mahalaxmi, boasts a spacious facility spanning over 9,800 square feet with a capacity of 200 beds. Led by renowned British veterinarian Thomas Heathcote, the team at this veterinary hospital will offer a wide range of services including emergency care, triage, consultation, in-patient care, and specialized departments like dermatology, cardiology, and radiology.

One of the most commendable aspects of this initiative is its commitment to providing care for stray animals. Services for strays will be offered pro bono or at minimal costs, ensuring that even the most vulnerable animals receive the medical attention they need. Additionally, the hospital will have an annexe dedicated to sterilizing and treating strays, in collaboration with the Welfare of Stray Dogs, a local animal welfare NGO.

With plans to expand its services to include surgical procedures in the future, this small animal hospital is a much-needed addition to the city’s veterinary care infrastructure. By prioritizing the well-being of pets and strays alike, Ratan Tata and the Tata Trust are setting a new standard for animal welfare in India.

In conclusion, the opening of India’s first 24-hour Small Animal Hospital in Mumbai is a significant milestone for animal lovers and pet owners. With its comprehensive range of services, commitment to providing care for strays, and dedication to enhancing veterinary care in the city, this hospital is a testament to Ratan Tata’s love for animals and his vision for a more compassionate society.
