Mr. Porter, who considered Abby his „best friend,“ made the heartbreaking discovery while drinking his morning coffee in the back garden. He found Abby’s body hanging out of the lounge window in a position that he believes she could not have gotten into on her own. The 47-year-old reported the incident to Suffolk Police, who sent forensics officers to the scene to investigate further.
The police confirmed that they had looked into „reports of unnecessary suffering to a protected animal“ and are now waiting for new information to come to light. Mr. Porter, who had suffered a stroke due to stress following Abby’s death, expressed his disbelief at the situation, stating that Abby was a beautiful and lovely cat who was his best friend.
After the tragic incident, Mr. Porter found refuge with his friend Victoria Jenkins, who took him and Abby into her home. Victoria, who has known Mr. Porter since school, shared the difficulty of explaining Abby’s absence to her two-year-old daughter and expressed how deeply the incident had affected her. One of Victoria’s neighbors, who wished to remain anonymous out of fear for her own cats‘ safety, also expressed concern for her pets after hearing about Abby’s death.

The RSPCA has reported an increase in reports of animal cruelty, with over 44,800 cases recorded in the first half of 2024, including more than 520 reports in Suffolk alone. A spokesperson for the RSPCA expressed condolences to Abby’s owners and urged anyone with information to contact the police.
