New Dog Perfume Released, But Some Are Skeptical

Dolce & Gabbana, a renowned fashion company, has recently made headlines with the introduction of a new alcohol-free perfume for dogs in Italy. Priced at $108 for a 3.4-ounce bottle, the perfume named ‚Fefé‘ pays homage to Domenico Dolce’s beloved poodle. This unique product has been certified for animal use under the Safe Pet Cosmetics protocol, which aims to ensure product safety for animals similar to human standards.

At the launch of the perfume, Dolce & Gabbana emphasized their commitment to creating safe and respectful products for animals through compliance with the protocol. The company’s website has been quick to highlight positive feedback from both dog owners and veterinarians, claiming that the fragrance is gentle and well-received by pets. However, not all veterinarians share the same enthusiasm for pet perfumes.

Some veterinarians have expressed skepticism about the use of perfumes on dogs, citing concerns that it could disrupt their sense of smell. Federico Coccía, a veterinarian in Rome, explained that dogs recognize themselves and others by smell, and altering their natural scent could pose challenges in diagnosing health issues. For example, concealing natural dog odors could make it difficult to identify dermatological conditions or other health problems.

Despite these concerns, some dog groomers and pet owners are enthusiastic about using fragrances for pets. Dog groomer Aliof Rilova Tano from La Boutique delle Birbe in Rome supports the use of pet fragrances, noting that having a perfumed dog at home can be pleasant. Customer Mariarita Ricciardi also endorses natural scents that enhance the quality of a dog’s coat. However, not all pet owners share the same sentiment.

Francesca Castelli, a pet owner in Rome, views perfuming pets as an excessive form of humanization. She believes that using brand perfumes on pets is overly extravagant. This difference in opinion among pet owners highlights the diverse perspectives on pet grooming and care practices.

Interestingly, the introduction of the Dolce & Gabbana dog perfume comes at a time when a new trend in pet care is emerging on social media platforms like TikTok. The trend, known as „Underconsumption Core,“ challenges consumerism and advocates for a minimalist approach to pet care. Pet owners are sharing their opinions about simplifying their pet care routines and focusing on providing their furry companions with only what they truly need.

In conclusion, the launch of the Dolce & Gabbana dog perfume has sparked a conversation about the use of fragrances on pets and the importance of considering their well-being. While some embrace the idea of pet perfumes as a way to enhance their pets‘ grooming routine, others are more cautious about potential implications on their health and natural instincts. As the pet care industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how trends like „Underconsumption Core“ shape the way we care for our beloved furry friends.
