PACC Expands Capacity to Accommodate Over 100 Large Dogs

The Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson, Arizona, recently made an announcement that they are taking in more than 100 dogs, adding to an already high-census shelter. This decision comes as a response to a capacity crisis with the dog population at the shelter, which currently houses over 530 dogs. Monica Dangler, the director of PACC, emphasized the importance of intervening when animals‘ health and well-being are at risk, stating that the shelter must step in to help in such situations.

The staff at PACC is working diligently to minimize the impact on the pets already in their care. An impound of approximately 80 dogs is expected to take place as soon as Friday, August 2nd. Danielle Hinte, the chief animal protection officer, highlighted that many well-meaning pet lovers may find themselves in situations that spiral out of their control. PACC’s animal protection officers and Pet Support Center are available to assist individuals in need, ensuring that both pets and their owners can lead safe and happy lives together.

In an effort to find loving homes for these dogs, PACC has made all dogs and puppies currently available for adoption free of charge. Additionally, all pets adopted from PACC are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and given age-appropriate vaccines. This initiative aims to encourage more people to consider adopting a pet and provide these animals with a second chance at a happy and healthy life.

Furthermore, PACC is seeking foster parents who can take in a pet for a minimum of two weeks.
