PACC seeks community assistance as it surpasses critical capacity

The Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is facing a crisis as they are currently bursting at the seams with an overwhelming number of pets, especially dogs, being impounded every day. With 577 dogs already in the shelter and potentially 100 more expected to arrive this week, the center is in desperate need of adopters and fosters to provide loving homes for these animals. Additionally, there are around 150 cats at PACC waiting for their forever families.

Monica Dangler, the director of PACC, has emphasized the urgent need for help from the community. She expressed the gravity of the situation by stating, „We are making euthanasia decisions hour-by-hour based on our census.“ The Animal Protection Services team at PACC is currently handling two large cases, which are expected to result in an additional 100 dogs entering the shelter.

In response to the crisis, PACC is calling on volunteers to assist in various capacities at the shelter. Whether it’s dog walking, taking photos for intake, or providing other skills, all forms of help are welcome. The community is urged to come together and support PACC in finding homes for these animals in need.

To encourage adoptions and reduce the risk of euthanasia, PACC is offering a special promotion. All pets are free to adopt, and those who adopt an adult animal (five months or older) will receive a $25 store credit. This incentive aims to incentivize potential adopters to open their hearts and homes to these deserving animals.

For those who are unable to adopt or foster, there are still ways to support PACC and the animals in their care. Keeping an updated ID tag on your pet can prevent them from ending up in the shelter and using resources needed for other animals. By taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of your own pets, you can indirectly help those in need at PACC.

In conclusion, PACC is in dire need of assistance from the community to address the influx of animals in their care. By coming together and offering support through adoption, fostering, volunteering, or spreading awareness, individuals can make a significant impact in providing a second chance for these pets. The time to act is now, and every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference in the lives of these animals.
