Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) in Tucson, Arizona, is facing a capacity crisis as they prepare to take in over 100 dogs from two separate homes. The situation has been exacerbated by the already high number of dogs in the shelter, with more than 530 dogs currently in their care. Monica Dangler, PACC’s director, emphasized the importance of intervening when animals‘ health and well-being are at risk, as is the case in these situations.
The details of the cases are still limited, but PACC’s Animal Protection team is working diligently to minimize the impact on the pets already at the shelter. The larger impound, which includes approximately 80 dogs, is expected to take place as soon as Friday, Aug. 2. In response to this influx of dogs, PACC is actively seeking fosters and adopters to make room for the incoming animals.
Danielle Hinte, chief animal protection officer, highlighted that well-meaning pet lovers sometimes find themselves in situations that spiral out of control. PACC’s animal protection officers and Pet Support Center are dedicated to helping individuals navigate these challenges to ensure that pets can live safe and happy lives with their owners.
PACC is currently offering free adoptions for dogs and puppies, with all pets being microchipped, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated. Foster parents who can commit to caring for a pet for at least two weeks are also urgently needed, especially for larger dogs. PACC can provide supplies for fosters based on available donations.
For those unable to foster or adopt, there is an opportunity to support PACC’s efforts through donations to their nonprofit partner. By contributing to their cause, individuals can help provide care and resources for the animals in need. Additionally, subscribing to the 13 News YouTube channel can help raise awareness about important issues like this in the community.
In conclusion, PACC’s efforts to address the influx of dogs from two separate homes highlight the ongoing challenges faced by animal shelters in managing their populations. By fostering, adopting, or donating, individuals can play a crucial role in supporting PACC’s mission to provide a safe and loving environment for all animals in their care.
