PETA U.K. Crashes Pharrell Williams’ Paris Olympics Party to Protest Use of Wild-Animal Skins and Fur

In a bold move, two PETA U.K. supporters recently disrupted a star-studded Paris Olympics kick-off party to confront Pharrell Williams, host and Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director, for his use of wild-animal skins and fur in his collections. The activists held signs reading “Pharrell: Stop Killing Animals for Fashion” in front of a high-profile crowd that included Anna Wintour, Charlize Theron, Serena Williams, and Lebron James. The incident, captured on video, sheds light on PETA’s campaign to urge Louis Vuitton’s parent company LVMH, a sponsor of the Olympic Games, to ban fur and wild-animal skins.

The disruption at the Paris event underscores PETA’s commitment to raising awareness about the cruel practices involved in the fashion industry. Yvonne Taylor, PETA U.K.’s Vice President of Corporate Projects, emphasized the suffering endured by animals raised for their skins and fur. She called on Pharrell to take a stand against animal cruelty and push Louis Vuitton to abandon the outdated use of animal products in their designs.

A recent PETA Asia investigation into slaughterhouses in Indonesia, which supply LVMH, revealed shocking practices such as snakes being inflated with water, bashed with hammers, and cut with razors while likely still conscious. Similar investigations have documented the brutal treatment of crocodiles, lizards, ostriches, and other animals in the fashion industry. These findings highlight the inhumane conditions in which animals are raised and killed for their skins.

While some major designers have already taken steps to ban the use of exotic skins and fur in their collections, Louis Vuitton and Pharrell Williams have yet to follow suit. PETA points out that luxury fashion houses like Mulberry, Victoria Beckham, Chanel, Burberry, Diane von Furstenberg, and Vivienne Westwood have all made the ethical choice to forgo animal products in their designs.

PETA’s message, that „animals are not ours to wear,“ resonates with individuals who believe in compassion and kindness towards all living beings. The organization offers resources like Empathy Kits to educate people on the importance of treating animals with respect. By advocating for the ethical treatment of animals in the fashion industry, PETA continues to push for change and raise awareness about the impact of using animal skins and fur in clothing.
