Claudia Roll, a seasoned professional with nearly thirty years of experience in animal welfare, education, operations, budgeting, and management, has been appointed as the new Animal Care & Control Administrator for Anne Arundel County. County Executive Steuart Pittman made the announcement on July 26, 2024, stating that Roll will officially assume her role on July 29.
With a background that includes serving as Chief of Staff for the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, D.C., Roll brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new position. During her time at the Alliance, she managed a large staff and oversaw various shelter functions, such as animal care, behavior, animal control, humane law enforcement, and volunteer coordination. Her leadership was particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she successfully maintained essential services, increased foster placements by over 70%, and implemented a virtual adoption process.
„I am thrilled to be joining the Animal Care & Control team,“ Roll expressed. „I’m especially excited for the opportunity to bring my experience to serve the citizens and animals of the county I call home.“
Prior to her tenure in Washington, Roll held positions as a kennel supervisor and program manager for the City of Albuquerque’s Animal Welfare Department. In these roles, she managed spaying and neutering programs, foster care initiatives, and volunteer programs for two municipal shelters with an annual intake of 24,000 animals. Additionally, Roll served as the Manager for Companion Animal and Sheltering Issues for Animal Protection of New Mexico, where she evaluated animal care and control operations statewide and recommended improvements.
Roll’s dedication to animal welfare is further evidenced by her certifications in training and animal cruelty investigations. As a resident of Severna Park, she is committed to making a positive impact on the community and the animals in her care.
County Executive Pittman expressed confidence in Roll’s ability to lead the transformation of the Animal Care & Control agency into a mission-driven organization that prioritizes the welfare of animals. He believes that her experience and skills will be instrumental in supporting the staff and volunteers in their crucial work.
