Polisi Tangkap 9 Nelayan Vietnam yang Tertangkap Mencuri 1 Ton Ikan di Natuna

Illegal fishing is a major issue that threatens the sustainability of marine resources worldwide. In Indonesia, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has been actively combating this problem, as evidenced by the recent capture of a Vietnamese-flagged fishing vessel engaged in illegal fishing activities in the waters of Natuna.

The KKP’s Directorate General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance (PSDKP) successfully intercepted the illegal fishing vessel on the 79th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence. The patrol vessel ORCA 03, under the command of Captain Ma’ruf, discovered the Vietnamese vessel BV 93481 TS operating without the necessary permits and using prohibited fishing gear such as trawls.

This operation was initiated in response to reports from local fishermen in Natuna, who alerted authorities to the presence of foreign fishing vessels in the area. The swift action taken by the PSDKP led to the apprehension of the illegal fishing vessel, which was subsequently brought to the PSDKP base in Batam for further investigation.

The illegal fishing vessel, carrying nine foreign crew members from Vietnam, was found to be carrying approximately one ton of mixed fish. The estimated value of the confiscated catch amounted to Rp117.7 billion, highlighting the significant economic impact of illegal fishing activities on Indonesia’s marine resources.

In line with Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono’s directive to crack down on illegal fishing, the PSDKP will continue to enforce the law and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. To date, the PSDKP has successfully apprehended 116 illegal fishing vessels, including 100 Indonesian vessels and 16 foreign-flagged vessels.

The ongoing efforts to combat illegal fishing are crucial to safeguarding Indonesia’s marine resources and ensuring their sustainable management for future generations. By upholding the rule of law and promoting responsible fishing practices, the KKP is working towards a more secure and prosperous marine environment for all.
