School News Network: Graduate Discovers Passion for Horses in the Arena

Alyxzin Taylor, a recent graduate from Kenowa Hills High School, has a passion for horseback riding that goes beyond just a hobby. For Alyxzin, spending time with her horses, Wrangler and Mya, is a daily motivation that brings her joy and fulfillment. From cleaning stalls to participating in competitions, Alyxzin’s dedication to her horses is evident in everything she does.

Growing up around her grandpa’s horses, Alyxzin’s love for horses started at a young age. One of her earliest memories is riding her grandpa’s horse, Star, and the connection she felt with the animals. When she decided to take up riding again at 12 or 13, she found Windmill Acres and a horse named Tia. Together, they learned and grew, eventually leading to Wrangler’s birth. Alyxzin played a significant role in Wrangler’s life from birth, and their bond has only strengthened over the years.

Alyxzin and Wrangler have participated in numerous horse shows, where they have won several first-, second-, and third-place ribbons in various classes. From leading Wrangler in the halter class to demonstrating her riding skills in English and Western equitation, Alyxzin and Wrangler make a formidable team in the arena. Their hard work and dedication paid off when they were named All Breed Open and All Breed Open Ranch Grand Reserve Grand Champions in a recent competition.

In addition to her individual achievements, Alyxzin also competed on Kenowa Hills‘ equestrian team, showcasing her skills and passion for horseback riding. Throughout her high school years, Alyxzin learned to balance her time between riding, school work, and college classes at Grand Rapids Community College through Kenowa Hills‘ middle college program. With the help of her transitions coordinator, Katrina Young, Alyxzin managed her workload effectively, allowing her to pursue her passion for horseback riding while excelling academically.

Looking towards the future, Alyxzin plans to continue riding and showing her horses while pursuing a career in welding. Despite her love for horses, Alyxzin is excited about the prospect of a hands-on career path and is eager to start her journey at GRCC in the fall. Through her experiences balancing horse-mom life, high school, and college classes, Alyxzin has learned the importance of advocating for herself and taking things at her own pace.

Beyond her love for horseback riding, Alyxzin and her family have a menagerie of animals, including cows, goats, pigs, and dogs. Alyxzin plans to show her animals at fairs this summer, showcasing her dedication to caring for and nurturing her furry friends. With a heart full of love for animals and a spirit of determination, Alyxzin Taylor is a shining example of passion, hard work, and resilience in pursuing one’s dreams.
