West Midlands Police are currently on a urgent hunt for two dogs believed to be involved in the tragic death of a 33-year-old man in Birmingham. The man, who was looking after his brother’s dogs, was found dead in the back garden of a home in Rubery. While two dogs have been seized, authorities are searching for two more American bulldog types that are not considered to be a banned breed.
Supt Sally Simpson emphasized the importance of finding the other dogs believed to have been involved in the incident. The investigation into the man’s death is ongoing, with the priority being the search for the missing dogs. Insp Leanne Chapman of the West Midlands Police dog unit stated that they are aware of at least two missing dogs, but there may potentially be a third dog involved. She clarified that all indications point towards there being two outstanding dogs.
One of the dogs that had already been seized showed signs of head injuries, leading authorities to believe that the other missing dogs may also be injured. CCTV footage captured two hours after the police were called showed two dogs near a nearby property, although it remains unclear if they were the missing animals.
Police were alerted to the situation in Hereford Close in the early hours of Wednesday when reports came in about loose dogs. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim outside and seized the two dogs. Insp Chapman confirmed that the dogs belonged to the home where the man was found, although he did not reside there himself. The dogs were related to him through family ties, but they were not his pets.
There is no history of the dogs displaying aggressive behavior, and there is no evidence to suggest that they were not well cared for. A post-mortem examination is underway to determine the cause of the man’s death, with authorities suspecting that he may have been attacked by at least one dog, potentially leading to his demise.
West Midlands Police have released an image of one of the dogs they are searching for, describing another similar dog as black. The family of the deceased man is receiving support, and officers are conducting thorough investigations, including house-to-house inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage. Drones are being utilized to search the surrounding area, with West Mercia Police also assisting in the search efforts.
Insp Chapman urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of not approaching the dogs if spotted but instead contacting authorities immediately. The tragic incident has left the community in shock, and the search for the missing dogs continues as the investigation unfolds.
