Octavia, the beloved calico cat of Kris Stise, has been missing since June 26. Kris, a 32-year-old resident of the Fishers neighborhood, Brooks Chase, has been tirelessly searching for her furry companion for three weeks now. The heartbreak of having a cat go missing is a unique kind of pain, caught in a limbo between the joy of having a cat in your lap and the emptiness of a missing pet.
I first noticed Kris walking down a sidewalk on 131st Street, seemingly just another pedestrian going about her day. However, upon closer inspection, I realized that the oversized backpack she was carrying was actually a netted cat carrier, empty and waiting for Octavia to return home. This sight made me realize that Kris had a story to tell, a story of love and loss that many pet owners can relate to.
Kris is determined to find Octavia, her constant companion whom she has raised since she was a tiny kitten. The posters she has put up around the neighborhood, with a reward of $100 (now $200 with contributions from others), describe Octavia as a small cat with tortoiseshell coloring and yellow-orange eyes. Kris fondly recalls Octavia’s affectionate nature, her love for being held, and her playful antics that brightened Kris’s days.
Despite the passage of three weeks, Kris remains undeterred in her search for Octavia. She spends her days scanning the neighborhood, checking yards, playgrounds, and cul-de-sacs in the hopes of finding her missing cat. She has received some calls from concerned neighbors and strangers offering tips on how to attract Octavia back home, such as putting out her favorite food and blankets.
Unfortunately, Kris has also had to deal with scammers posing as „animal control“ who have tried to take advantage of her desperate situation. Despite these setbacks, Kris remains focused on finding Octavia and bringing her back home where she belongs. She is determined to keep Octavia in her memory, even if she never finds her, but her ultimate goal is to reunite with her beloved cat.
As the days pass, Kris continues her search, wearing her newsboy cap and carrying the empty cat carrier, a symbol of hope and determination. If you have any information about Octavia’s whereabouts, you can contact Kris at Kstise237@gmail.com or Scott at scottsaalman@gmail.com. Let’s all come together to help Kris find her sweet girl and bring her back home where she belongs.
