Some vets and pet-owners skeptical of Dolce & Gabbana’s new perfume for dogs

Rome, known for its rich history and vibrant culture, is now making headlines in the world of pet care with the launch of a new alcohol-free perfume for dogs by fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. The perfume, named ‚Fefé‘ in honor of Domenico Dolce’s poodle, has sparked a debate among veterinarians and pet owners about its safety and appropriateness.

Priced at $108 for 100 milliliters, ‚Fefé‘ has been certified suitable for animal use and follows a Safe Pet Cosmetics protocol to ensure its safety. Bureau Veritas Italia, a reputable company providing inspection and certification services, has granted compliance recognition to this protocol, endorsing the product’s safety and respect for animals.

According to Dolce & Gabbana, dog owners who have tried ‚Fefé‘ have reported that the fragrance is gentle and well-received by their pets. Veterinarians have also given their approval, citing positive performance reviews on the company’s dedicated web page for the perfume. However, not all veterinarians agree on the use of perfumes for dogs, as they may interfere with the animal’s sense of smell and mask odors that could be indicative of underlying health issues.

Federico Coccia, a veterinarian in Rome, emphasized the importance of dogs‘ sense of smell in recognizing people and detecting potential health problems. He expressed concerns that covering up natural odors with perfume could hinder the diagnosis of dermatological diseases and other health issues. Coccia’s insights shed light on the potential drawbacks of using fragrances on pets.

Despite the controversy surrounding pet perfumes, groomers like Aliof Rilova Tano at La Boutique delle Birbe parlor in Rome are in favor of using fragrances for pets. Tano believes that a pleasant scent can enhance the bond between dogs and their owners, making them more enjoyable to have around. Grooming customers, such as Mariarita Ricciardi, also appreciate the use of fragrances for their pets, as it can improve the quality of their hair and overall grooming experience.

On the other hand, some pet owners, like Francesca Castelli, are wary of using perfumes on their animals, viewing it as an unnecessary and excessive form of humanization. Castelli’s perspective reflects a growing sentiment among pet owners who prefer to keep their pets‘ natural scent intact and avoid unnecessary grooming products.

In conclusion, the launch of ‚Fefé‘ by Dolce & Gabbana has sparked a debate within the pet care community in Rome and beyond. While some pet owners and groomers embrace the use of fragrances for dogs, others, including veterinarians, caution against potential risks and drawbacks. As the discussion continues, it is essential for pet owners to consider the well-being and preferences of their furry companions when deciding whether to use perfumes on them.
