Summary of the Wild Animal Sanctuary Meetup in Colorado: Open Discussion Thread on 7/22/2024

The Colorado State Open Thread is a platform designed for individuals with any level of interest in Colorado. Whether you are a resident, visitor, expat, or simply curious about the state, this open thread provides a space for people to share their thoughts and experiences. Recently, a meetup was organized at the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado, located about an hour northeast of Denver. The meetup took place on a warm Saturday afternoon, with temperatures reaching around 90 degrees.

Upon arrival at the sanctuary, attendees were greeted by a variety of animals, many of whom were lounging in the sun or resting. The boardwalk for visitors is elevated about thirty feet over the enclosures, providing a unique perspective of the animals. From this vantage point, attendees were able to capture stunning photos of the wildlife, including large carnivores, birds, and other rescued animals.

Throughout the visit, attendees encountered a range of animals, from bobcats and lynxes to African servals and bears. The sanctuary is home to a diverse array of species, each with its own unique characteristics and behaviors. Attendees marveled at the beauty and majesty of the animals, capturing moments of playfulness, relaxation, and curiosity.

As the afternoon progressed, a storm began to approach from the northeast, bringing strong winds and a sudden drop in temperature. Despite the weather change, the animals seemed unfazed, continuing their activities as the storm approached. As the group made their way back towards the entrance, they were treated to the sound of male lions roaring in the distance, a powerful and awe-inspiring moment.

Following the visit to the sanctuary, the group reconvened at the Pepper Pod restaurant in nearby Hudson for a meal. The food was delicious, and attendees enjoyed engaging in conversation and getting to know one another better. The meetup provided an opportunity for individuals to connect, share experiences, and build relationships beyond the online platform.

Overall, the Colorado State Open Thread meetup at the Wild Animal Sanctuary was a memorable and enriching experience for all involved. From observing the wildlife to sharing a meal and conversation, the meetup exemplified the spirit of community and exploration. As the group dispersed and headed home, they reflected on the day’s events and looked forward to future meetups and adventures in the beautiful state of Colorado.
