Texas family defends livestock by shooting pit bulls that attacked and killed them

A Texas woman is standing up for her husband’s decision to shoot and kill three pit bulls after the dogs attacked her livestock, resulting in the deaths of several of her animals. Michelle Gomez of Caldwell County expressed her frustration to FOX 7 Austin, stating that „enough is enough“ in response to the ongoing attacks by her neighbor’s pit bulls.

The incident occurred on a Friday morning when the neighbor’s pit bulls managed to breach Gomez’s property, either by scaling over or digging under the fence. The dogs viciously attacked her pig, grabbing it by the ears. Fortunately, the pig survived the assault, but this was not the first time such an incident had occurred. Over the past two and a half years, three chickens and one miniature horse had fallen victim to the neighbor’s pit bulls.

Gomez shared her concerns with FOX 7 Austin, expressing that she fears for her life due to the repeated attacks on her livestock. Despite her love for animals, she felt compelled to take action to protect her property and ensure the safety of her animals. She mentioned that law enforcement had advised her of her right to shoot and kill the dogs in such situations.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office had received over 45 service calls related to cruelty to animals, stray dogs, and animals at large in the past 30 months. The owner of the pit bulls had previously received citations for nuisance animals, paid fines, and attended court dates. However, Gomez believed that more needed to be done to address the issue, emphasizing the need for the dogs to be removed from the neighborhood.

In response to the situation, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office stated that they had followed the laws of the State of Texas and had pursued the matter to the fullest extent possible. They assured that they would continue to adhere to state law to prevent further incidents involving pets and livestock in the county.

Gomez expressed her intention to take legal action against both her neighbor and Caldwell County for the distress and losses she and her animals had endured. The ongoing conflict highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for effective measures to address aggressive behavior in animals to prevent harm to both humans and other animals.

In conclusion, the story of Michelle Gomez and her battle to protect her livestock from repeated attacks by her neighbor’s pit bulls sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals dealing with aggressive animals in their community. It serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for authorities to take appropriate action to ensure the safety of both people and animals.
