Top Stories: Horses in the Spotlight with Latest News, Sports, and Job Opportunities

The East Marshall softball team has found a unique way to bring some extra spirit and fun to their dugout this season. Three players, Makayla Hala, Peyton Grabenbauer, and Vaeda Bryan, have introduced portable pony heads on sticks to cheer on their teammates during games. These horse heads, which even make sounds, have quickly become the team’s unofficial mascots, adding a touch of whimsy to the competitive atmosphere of high school softball.

The idea for the pony heads came from Bryan and senior teammate Morgan Neuroth, who were inspired by seeing Ankeny Centennial’s horse heads in the dugout at last year’s state softball tournament. The players decided to bring their own version of the quirky accessory to the East Marshall team, and it has been a hit ever since. The pony heads, named Chocolate Brownie Galaxy Brownie, Scotty Steve, and Lady Glittersparkles Twinkletoes, have become beloved members of the team, providing moral support and entertainment for both players and fans.

Head coach Jary Hoskey has fully embraced the addition of the pony heads to the dugout atmosphere, recognizing the positive impact they have on the team’s morale. He believes that the pony heads help to relax the players and create a fun and supportive environment during games. The sight of the pony heads in the dugout not only brings a smile to the players‘ faces but also catches the attention of opposing teams, adding an element of surprise and amusement to the games.

The players themselves have fun with the pony heads, each having their own favorite and unique name for their horse. From Chocolate Brownie Galaxy Brownie to Lady Glittersparkles Twinkletoes, the names are as creative and playful as the players themselves. Even senior Makayla Kerber, who admits she can’t always remember the names off the top of her head, appreciates the joy and laughter that the pony heads bring to the team.

Overall, the addition of the portable pony heads to the East Marshall softball team has been a lighthearted and enjoyable way to boost team spirit and camaraderie. As the team prepares for their upcoming state quarterfinal, the pony heads continue to provide a source of fun and support for the players, reminding them to enjoy the game and have a good time on the field. With their unique and creative approach to team spirit, the East Marshall softball team is sure to leave a lasting impression on both their opponents and fans alike.
