Mumbai, September 6: In a shocking incident of a wild animal attack, a hyena suffering from an infection attacked two individuals near Khapurdi village in Khed tehsil of Pune district in Maharashtra on Monday. Reports suggest that the hyena, which later was found dead, might have been irritated by the infection, leading it to attack the passersby. It is believed that several forested areas in Khed tehsil are home to a number of hyenas.
According to Hindustan Times, the infected hyena first attacked an elderly man who had to be hospitalized following the incident. The man is currently under observation for any complications that may arise from the attack. The second victim was a motorcyclist passing through the area when he was also attacked by the wild animal. The hyena was later discovered dead, likely due to the infection it was suffering from.
Deputy conservator of forests of Junnar division, Jayaram Gowda, stated to Hindustan Times, „It happened near Khapurdi village in Khed. Apart from the elderly person, the animal attacked a motorcyclist as well. The hyena was later found dead as it was suffering from some infection. It may have attacked people out of irritation due to the infection.“
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by wild animals, especially when they are suffering from illnesses or infections. It is crucial for authorities to monitor and manage such situations to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of the local residents.
In a similar case of animal attack reported a few days ago, an elderly couple in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park bravely fought off a leopard to save their granddaughter. The child was attacked by the big cat and was being dragged away when her grandmother intervened. The elderly couple’s quick thinking and bravery saved the child from harm and prevented a potentially tragic outcome.
These incidents highlight the importance of coexisting with wildlife while also being aware of the potential risks they may pose. It is essential for individuals living in or near forested areas to take precautions and remain vigilant to avoid such encounters. Authorities must also work towards implementing measures to protect both humans and wildlife in these habitats to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
