Woman facing death threats for her efforts to assist rescued horses

In a heartwrenching turn of events, over 20 horses were rescued from a farm in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, after being found in poor condition. The rescue operation was coordinated by the U.S. Equine Rescue League North Coastal Region, with Debby Kelly at the helm. Kelly, the regional director of the organization, has been tirelessly working to ensure the well-being of these neglected animals.

Debby Kelly, a dedicated horse lover, is no stranger to hard work. Along with caring for seven horses on her own property, she has taken on the responsibility of overseeing the rehabilitation of the rescued horses. Despite facing threats and criticism from individuals unhappy with the rescue efforts, Kelly remains steadfast in her commitment to the welfare of these animals.

The rescue operation has not been without its challenges. Kelly revealed that she had received threatening phone calls and faced backlash from individuals questioning the handling of the rescue. However, she remains undeterred, working closely with law enforcement to address any safety concerns and ensure the horses receive the care they desperately need.

Out of the 23 horses rescued, two were returned to their owners, while the remaining 21 are now under the ownership of the Rescue League. These horses are currently undergoing rehabilitation, with the goal of eventually finding them loving forever homes once they are healthy and ready for adoption.

One of the rescued horses was recently featured in a news segment, showcasing the efforts of the women involved in rehabilitating these animals. The emotional toll of witnessing the suffering of these horses was evident, with one woman expressing her sadness and anger at the situation.

Despite the challenges and emotional strain, Kelly remains optimistic about the progress of the rehabilitation efforts. She reassured that all the horses are responding well to treatment and will be available for adoption once they are fully recovered. Owners of the neglected horses were given the option to surrender their animals or face legal action, highlighting the severity of the neglect that occurred.

As investigations into the case continue, the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office is actively looking into the matter. Concerned individuals are urged to contact their local animal control officer if they suspect any instances of animal neglect or abuse, providing as much evidence as possible to ensure the safety and well-being of these vulnerable animals.

In the face of adversity, Debby Kelly and the U.S. Equine Rescue League North Coastal Region are shining examples of compassion and dedication in the rescue and rehabilitation of neglected horses. Their unwavering commitment to these animals serves as a beacon of hope for a brighter future for each and every horse in their care.
